How to create a homepage that converts
Your homepage is likely to be the most visited page on your website and it is the most important. It’s where your website visitors get a first impression of you and your business. It’s also the place that guides them through the other areas of your website. This is your shop window. Now I know there's a temptation to have a jaw-droppingly beautiful homepage, but in all honesty, it’s pointless if you haven’t designed it to convert.
The layout of your homepage needs to be designed with conversions in mind. Every section needs to have a purpose. Every image should inspire or aspire. You need to make it clear to your website visitors about what you want them to do and how to do it.
A simple high converting hompage layout
Pretty much everywhere you go you’ll find a differing opinion on what makes a good homepage layout, but here’s what works for me and my clients:
Hero image
Compelling heading
Keyword rich copy (1-2 sentences max)
Call to action (this is normally a button click to view services. Shop your items or book and appointment)
Scroll worthy subheading that addresses ideal clients needs and sparks their interest.
Sell them the transformation.
Introduce yourself and link to about page
Service summary and link to services/shop
Social proof (testimonials etc)
Freebie push/newsletter sign up
Socials/ way to get in touch
Here are a few other things to consider:
People don't like to read, so adding reams and reams of text is pointless. Be concise, stick to the point and invite them to read more on another page if they want to.
White space is essential. White space is just gaps between content that is unused. Having white space on any page on your site makes it look less cluttered and makes it easier for folk to read and reduces your bounce rate.
Too many pop-ups can be distracting. Limit your pop ups to your cookie notice and your lead generation pop up.
I really hope this has given you some guidance on tweaks you can make to your own homepage.
Now go do the things.
